Guatemalans from Las Vegas, Nevada participated in the Latin American Carnival, held this past Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Sunset Park. Ana de la Roca coordinated the dancers and prepared the traditional colorful garments.
Guatemala is a land of predominantly small area festivals and larger national holidays, many of which are rooted in religious traditions. Mayans religions and traditions continue to remain strong within the indigenous population and are often intertwined with Catholic tendencies. Small village festivals are celebrated around the country at different times of the year.
